How to install VLC Media Player using terminal in Ubuntu

The following steps show how to install VLC Media Player using the terminal on Unbutu 16.04.

  1. Click on the Ubuntu icon in the launcher to open the search dialog
  2. Type “terminal” and click on the icon when it appears
  3. In the terminal – run the following command to refresh the software repository catalogue
  4. sudo apt-get update
  5. Once the command has finished, run the following command to install VLC Media Player
  6. sudo apt-get install vlc
  7. When prompted with the install size and ‘Do you want to continue’press ‘Y’ on your keyboard
  8. The install will now automatically complete
